Spinors: A Grit-Fuelled, Distortion-Soaked Assault on the Senses

There are bands you go to see, and then there are bands that seem to hit you square in the chest the moment they take the stage. Spinors fall firmly into the latter category.

Blending the raw aggression of grunge, the weight and muscle of hard rock, and the darker textures of post-grunge, Spinors deliver a live sound that feels both familiar and distinctly their own.

Comparisons to heavyweight influences such as Alice in Chains are easy to understand, but witnessing the trio live reveals something far more unpredictable — a band willing to push their sound into noisy, abrasive and wonderfully chaotic territory.

Even the band’s name hints at what awaits. Inspired by the quantum-physics concept of a “spinor”, something capable of existing in multiple states until observed — Spinors seem to embrace that same sense of instability on stage. Their performance constantly shifts between crushing heaviness and atmospheric tension, with waves of distortion, gritty guitar tones and sheer volume creating an experience that feels impossible to pin down.

And then there are the visuals.

The trio’s steampunk-inspired stage aesthetic perfectly complements the industrial character of their music. There’s a wonderfully grimy, mechanical quality to the whole presentation, making the band look every bit as formidable as they sound. It’s not simply a case of three musicians standing up and playing songs; the visual identity adds another layer to the performance and helps create a world for the audience to disappear into.

Musically, the sheer force of the band is difficult to ignore. Thunderous basslines underpin a wall of roaring guitar, while extended mid-section guitar passages unleash wave after wave of distortion. Yet cutting through all that sonic firepower are the vocals — powerful, direct and unapologetically raw.

There’s a sense of truthfulness in the delivery that gives the songs real emotional weight, with every word punching through the noise rather than getting swallowed by it.

That’s perhaps the most impressive thing about Spinors live: despite the volume, distortion and sheer density of their sound, there’s always something reaching out from the centre of it. The vocals remain commanding, the riffs hit with genuine physical force, and the trio’s chemistry keeps everything moving with a restless energy.

The result is a gig that feels loud, gritty, unpredictable and completely alive. Spinors don’t simply recreate the grunge and hard-rock sounds that clearly inspire them — they throw those influences into a darker, heavier and distinctly industrial blender, then unleash the result at full volume.

If you like your rock dirty, heavy and uncompromising, Spinors are a band worth experiencing live. Come for the riffs, stay for the thunderous bass, the truth-telling vocals and the glorious wall of distortion — and leave wondering exactly what the hell just hit you.

Soon after The Spinors left the stage, the band members returned with female vocalist Madame King as the fantastic Britallica

Britney Spears, But Make It Metal: A Riotous Night at the Brickmakers

There are few things more gloriously unexpected than hearing Britney Spears blasted through a wall of heavy distortion, thunderous double-kick drums and full-throttle screaming vocals — and at the Brickmakers in Norwich, that unlikely combination proved to be an absolute riot.

From the moment the band launched into their set, the atmosphere was electric. This was not a band content to simply stand on stage and play the songs; they attacked every track with an almost relentless energy, feeding off the crowd and turning the Brickmakers into a sweaty, bouncing celebration of pop nostalgia and heavy metal chaos.

Songs such as “Toxic,” “…Baby One More Time” and “Oops!… I Did It Again” were completely transformed. Familiar melodies suddenly became mosh-pit fuel, with huge riffs, pounding drums and ferocious vocals giving Britney’s biggest hits an entirely new lease of life. The contrast between instantly recognisable pop hooks and genuinely heavy instrumentation is what makes the whole concept work so brilliantly, you know every word, but you’ve never heard it quite like this.

There was one thing that really stood out, it was the sheer amount of energy packed into the performance. The band kept the momentum high throughout, delivering the kind of action-packed set that leaves you wondering where they find the stamina. With sets often approaching the two-hour mark, there’s also a remarkable amount of bang for your buck. For the price of a relatively modest gig ticket, you get an extended, full-on performance rather than a quick run through the hits.

Musically, the band clearly understands that the joke only works if the musicianship is there to back it up. The heavy guitars, screaming vocals and double-bass drumming could easily have overwhelmed the original songs, but instead they give them a surprisingly convincing metal makeover. The occasional moments where the intensity drops a more restrained vocal, a dialled-back passage or a little breathing room in a verse or bridge are particularly effective because they create contrast before the band inevitably kicks the door back in.

The Brickmakers itself feels like the perfect environment for this kind of show. There’s something wonderfully chaotic about watching a room full of people throw themselves into songs they probably grew up hearing on the radio, only now they’re being delivered at maximum volume with enough heaviness to shake the walls.

The only slight caveat is the sound. As with many loud, underground rock and metal shows, your experience can depend considerably on where you happen to be standing. From certain spots, the sheer volume and density of the performance can make individual instruments or vocals harder to pick out. But when everything locks together, guitars, drums, vocals and crowd, the sheer impact more than makes up for it.

Ultimately, this is the kind of gig that reminds you why live music is so much fun. It takes songs everyone knows, throws them into an entirely different musical universe and somehow makes the whole thing feel completely natural.

At the Brickmakers, Britney Spears became mosh-pit material and, judging by the energy in the room, nobody was complaining. Needless to say that with a strong crowd of 170, Simon & Terry at Searchlight promotions, once again, pulled the rabbit out of the hat with this fantastic night.
