Gwenno at the Norwich Arts Centre – May 11th 2026
Review & Photography by John Rawstron
wenno delivered a truly captivating performance, effortlessly blending her unique mix of psychedelic pop, folk influences, and electronic textures into an unforgettable evening of music. From the moment she stepped onto the stage, she commanded the audience’s attention with an enchanting presence and a warmth that made the venue feel intimate, regardless of its size.
Her vocals were stunning throughout the set, floating gracefully over rich layers of synths and hypnotic rhythms.
Songs from her acclaimed catalogue took on a new life in the live setting, with every track showcasing the depth and creativity that have made her one of the most distinctive artists on the UK music scene today. The band’s musicianship was exceptional, creating lush soundscapes that perfectly complemented Gwenno’s ethereal voice. Due to her support act not being able to attend the tour, Gwenno pulled off a double set with only a short break between.
The combination of Welsh and Cornish lyrics added a fascinating cultural dimension, drawing the audience deeper into her world and highlighting the unique identity that sets her apart from her contemporaries. What made the evening particularly special was the atmosphere. During her set she talked about Cats and what would it like to be one, which then encouraged the audience to make meowing songs.
The crowd was completely engaged, hanging on every note and responding enthusiastically throughout the performance. Whether delivering dreamy, immersive compositions or more upbeat moments, Gwenno maintained a perfect balance between artistic ambition and genuine connection with her audience.
Gwenno played songs from across her albums including her latest album “Utopia”, which is her first album in English. My favourite song from Utopia is “Dancing on Volcanoes”, but to hear it live, is something really special. Gwenno is truly an underrated artist that deserves much more limelight.
This was a performance that demonstrated exactly why Gwenno continues to receive such widespread critical acclaim. Inventive, beautiful, and emotionally resonant, it was a mesmerising show that left the audience thoroughly enchanted and eager for her return.
